What is Family Development?
Family Development redirects the way health, education, and human services are delivered to families. It moves systems away from crisis-oriented, fragmented services toward an empowerment, support-based approach to working with families. Family Development emphasizes strength-based partnerships, mutual respect, interagency collaboration, and family-centered services.
What is the Family Development Association of New York State?
The Family Development Association of New York State (FDANYS) was created through the collaborative effort of New York State agencies and, particularly, New York State Department of State and Community Action Agencies throughout the State. Incorporated in 1998, FDANYS is a membership organization for Family Development professionals and the families and communities with whom they work. It is implemented and supported by eight regions in NYS with a Board of Directors representing those Regions as well as five statewide organizations affecting families in New York State.
Guiding Principles
The Family Development Association of New York State is a strong, inclusive community that recognizes and celebrates:
- the power of the Family Development philosophy to help families become strong, empowered and connected;
- the commitments that people using the Family Development approach have made to enhance their personal and professional growth;
- the strength gained from the diversity of its membership;
- the building of strong community partnerships through coordination and collaboration; and,
- the value of sharing the Family Development philosophy with others.
